THE CRONCH is a 100% inorganic medium designed to remove any risk of fungus gnats and soil-borne diseases or pathogens. The medium becomes dark in color when wetted and lightens significantly when dry to let you know it’s time for a watering!
While most inorganic, rocky mixes are widely referred to as “pon” (shorthand for hydro-PON-ic), this mixture is specifically comprised of volcanic pumice, aluminosilicate clinoptilolite zeolite, and high-fired calcined clay. These ingredients maximize nutrient retention, drainage, and aeration while diversifying pH. Broadening the pH spectrum allows for a wider range of nutrients to be absorbed. The colors of these ingredients also significantly deepens when wetted, allowing you to visually determine when to water again as you watch the particles become pale, light, and dry.
While not as water-retentive as The Chonk, this completely rocky mixture can alternatively be set in a reservoir for consistent water supply. The 1/4” particle size allows for efficient wicking without having to use an actual wick! Just set in water and the mix will take care of the rest while the incorporated oxygen deters rot.
